Rockland County participated in the program that supplements the Yarmouth Rotary in MA who then forwards care packages directly to troops stationed on the front lines of Afghanistan. The socks were sent out to areas so remote that boxes are often dropped in the desert by helicopter.

Kudos to Ellen Chorba (right) and Gina Nishanian (left) for their incredible work organizing Socks for Soldiers — 9,571 pairs of fresh socks going to our men and women overseas. Believe it or not, the federal government is stingy when it comes to providing socks and receiving a pair of socks “is like Christmas morning” to the soldiers.

Ellen Chorba, a Stony Pointer, organized the campaign and dozens of organizations and hundreds of individuals participated.
