It’s been eight days since the Rockland County Times exposed the trashy conditions at the International Food Market in Spring Valley. Most unusual is the mound of open garbage left to sit in a side lot at the location.
Rockland County Times editors had assumed the open trash pile was not a regular feature of the market’s lot, but apparently it actually is the normal course of business to pile garbage in that location.
For the past several months it has been this way. RCT reader Boris Gelfand commented on last week’s story, “My office window looks right at the big pile of trash at the end of the parking lot. It’s been [there] for a few months now. First they had a garbage container there that was overflowing and now it’s just all on the street…GROSS!”
UPDATE: Following the coverage by the Times, the Rockland County Health Department announced they have issued a citation for a health violation. The owners of the property will have two weeks to fix the situation or begin to face daily fines up to $2,000.
