ACCUSED OF DWI AND RUNNING INTO A TREE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ESCAPE THE LAW

lafrancoisMichael E. LaFrancois, 23, of 36 Peck St. in West Haverstraw has been charged by the Stony Point Police Department with DWI, unlawfully fleeing police, reckless driving and several other traffic violations for an alleged night of bad decisions on May 28.

On May 28 SPD arrested the above LaFrancois after attempting to stop him for a vehicle and traffic violation. Police said, subsequent to a vehicle stop, the defendant fled into the Village of West Haverstraw after failing to yield to the officers’ attempt to stop him utilizing red lights and a siren. Police said the officer was able to stop the defendant’s vehicle after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident involving a tree on Zarriello Lane.

The defendant was arrested, transported to the Nyack Emergency room for treatment of minor injuries. He was then transported to the StonyPoint Police Department for processing. He was arraigned and later released on numerous traffic

tickets after posting $1,500.00 bail.

The Stony Point Police Department was assisted by the Town of Haverstraw Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Patrol Division.
