STRIVING TO LIVE WITH DIGNITY: PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA ART EXHIBITION

Hudson Valley, April 26, 2013 – Photographer Collette V. Fournier’s artwork will be exhibited at the CEJJES Institute, 5 Cooper Morris Dr., Pomona, NY 10970, from May 11 – July 13. The exhibit will include photographic pieces centered on experiences of people in the African Diaspora. The exhibit strives to depict each subject in a dignified and gracious manner. The artist’s reception will be Saturday, May 11 from 3–5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There will be light refreshments followed by a brief introduction to the art by Collette V. Fournier.

Collette V. Fournier is an award-winning New York-based photographer whose work has been published and exhibited widely and has been included in a number of museum collections, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture; she is a member of Kamoinge, an African American photographers’ collective. She has had six one-woman exhibitions including a 19-year retrospective. Her works have been shown in galleries in New York City, New Jersey, Texas, Rochester, Buffalo, Toronto, Montreal, Canada and the USSR. Her works are in the photographic collections of EnFoco, Inc., the Smithsonian Institute’s National African American Museum Project, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Women in Photography International Archive, and in private collections.

About Collette V. Fournier Fournier has been campus photographer and adjunct photography professor at SUNY Rockland Community College since 1992. She is writing a personal narrative on photography — which begins with her grandparents and includes people she has photographed through her creative and personal journey. Fournier is an active member of Kamoinge Inc., an African American photographers’ collective, and Black Art in America.
