Rollin’ With the Boulders

BY GEORGE J. DACRE

The First Annual BoulderDash 5k Run has been scheduled at Provident Bank Ballbark by the Rockland Boulders Sunday morning June 23 as part of a Health Fair sponsored by Active International and supporting sponsor Stop and Shop. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Active International Cardiovascular Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and also Boulder Benefits. That same day, the Boulders will play a CanAm League game at 2 p.m. against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Boulders President Ken Lehner said that the Boulders and Ovations Food Services are proud to be a part of the Boulderdash and that the 5K run will showcase Provident Ballpark as a community asset, while raising money for worthy causes in a new and unique manner.

The Boulders placed on sale individual tickets for each of the season’s 50 home games this week looking to build on the Boulder’s 2012 campaign in which they led the CanAm League with 161,375 fans attending home games and resulting in the Boulders being named the league’s “Organization of the Year.” The Boulders will open the 2013 season at home for the first time with the Newark Bears coming in Thursday May 16. The game is set for 7 p.m. and will be followed by the first Fireworks Extravaganza of the new season.

Regular fireworks will include most Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the season. Other great reoccurring dates on the schedule include the Friday Night Boulder Bash, featuring dollar beers and Sunday Family Day presented by the Sports Authority with kids running the bases.

Other great promotions in store this season include the third annual Collector’s Coin Giveaway presented by Clarkstown Cokn And Jewelry with this year’s Limited Edition featuring the one and only Boulderbird Ave. and Buster’s will present the return of the Mini-Bat Night when the Winnipeg Goldeyes visit June 20 and the popular Cultural Heritage series will return with Irish Night on June 27 with a live post-game performance by U2Nation at the Coors Light Bridge Bar.

There will be holiday games on Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day and Labor Day and five school and summer camp day matinees.
