Head-on Collision in Ramapo

At approximately 6:28 a.m., the Ramapo Police department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. The accident occurred on Route 59 in Hillburn, N.Y., just northwest of Torne Valley Road.

Responding officers discovered a head-on collision had occurred and both drivers were injured.  There were no passengers in either of the vehicles.

Hillburn Fire department was called to the scene to extricate one of the drivers, who was trapped in her vehicle. That driver stated that she had been traveling northwest, when the oncoming vehicle crossed into her lane, causing the collision.  That driver had an apparent knee/leg injury and complained of chest, back and head pain.

The driver traveling southeast did not recall the details of the accident at the scene and was complaining of back and elbow pain.

At the scene, there were no witnesses that actually saw the accident.

Ramapo Valley Ambulance responded to the scene with Rockland Paramedics to tend to both drivers, who were eventually transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.

Due to the accident, lanes on Route 59 were blocked, causing a temporary traffic backup in the area.  By about 8:15 a.m. the accident had been cleared and traffic was flowing normally.

None of the injuries caused by this collision appear to be life threatening.
