Empire City Casino will surely get the last laugh this month with a comedy lineup that rivals those typically seen in comedy clubs in New York City and Los Angeles. As Empire City Casino’s weekly Wednesday Comedy Night becomes the ‘must do’ mid-week entertainment hot spot, comedians are traveling from around the country to take the stage.
Headliners include Sherrod Small (April 10), Robert Kelly (April 17), and Johnny Lampert (April 24). This month’s comics have been seen on such TV programs as VH1’s “Best Week Ever” (Small), “Comedy Central Presents” (Kelly), and “HBO Comedy Showcase” (Lampert). Hosted in the Good Time Room, the doors open at 7:00 p.m. each night, with the show beginning at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for Empire Club members, $15 for non-members, and Elite members are free. All attendees also receive a free drink ticket.
Sherrod Small gets the April Comedy Nights started on April 10. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Small is one of the top stand-up comics coming out of New York City today, appearing at clubs and colleges across the country. With his witty commentary on politics, culture, and city life, Jerrod consistently receives rave reviews for keeping audiences entertained. He currently stars on VH1’s Best Week Ever and AMC’s FilmFakers and regularly appears on NBC’s Today Show. Joining Small will be MC Jessimae Peluso, who has been a finalist at the Boston Comedy Festival and the North Carolina Comedy & Arts Festival. Also featured on the bill will be Derek Gaines. The Union, New Jersey resident started his act in the vicious comedy clubs of Philadelphia and has since toured around the tri-state area.
The laugh-fest keeps rolling April 17 with headliner Robert Kelly, whose honest take on his own life and relationships make his comedy clever, abrasive, funny, yet refreshingly vulnerable. His extensive TV comedy credits include a Comedy Central Presents, HBO’s Tourgasm, and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. Kelly’s acting credits also include portraying Louie CK’s brother on Louie. Accompanying Kelly will be MC Bob DiBuono. Bob grew up in Danbury, Connecticut and has provided his voices, impressions and characters to MTV Europe, E! Entertainment, Good Day New York, and WNEW’s Opie and Anthony. Bronx native Angelo Lozada will also be featured. His television stand-up credits include NBC’s Showtime at the Apollo, BET’s Comic View, and most recently, Martin Lawrence Presents: First Amendment on Starz.
The final Comedy Night of the month will be April 24 headlined by Johnny Lampert. Lampert is considered one of the premier comedians in the country. He is a regular at New York City’s and Los Angeles’ best comedy clubs including The Comic Strip, Caroline’s Comedy Club, and The Improv. Johnny has also made numerous television appearances on MTV, A&E’s Caroline’s Comedy Hour, Comedy Central, NBC’s Friday Night Lights, and HBO Comedy Showcase. He will be joined by MC Shawn Cornelius. Cornelius AKA “The Romantic Funnyman” is a native New Yorker and 18-year entertainment vet. The charismatic comedian has headlined tours around the US as well as Europe. Also featured will be Marina Franklin who has made notable appearances on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Jay Leno Show, and Chappelle’s Show.
