LaCorte Announces He’s Running for CE, Harry Baker is 50/50

Suffern Mayor Dagan LaCorte

A new candidate has entered the 2013 County Executive race; Suffern Mayor Dagan LaCorte, Democrat.

LaCorte has been mayor of the village since 2010. He claims if elected he will reduce departments and boards by 25 percent, increase funding to Rockland Community College and eliminate earmark spending.

Former New City Jewish Center president Harry Baker, Democrat, has told the Rockland County Times he is considering a run for county executive as well. Baker has a lifetime of business experience and says he would be attractive for the position because he has never been involved in the local political scene. Baker will decide whether to run within the next few weeks.

Clarkstown Councilman Frank Borelli said he will come to a decision within the next two weeks. Spring Valley Justice David Fried is likely to run, but if Fried does run, he will have to give up his post as judge.

County legislators Ed Day (R) and Ilan Schoenberger (D) have already announced their candidacy.
