BY GEORGE J. DACRE

The opera “A Masked Ball” by Giuseppe Verdi is to be presented in English in the theatre of the Trinity United Methodist Church at 47 East Main Street, where the Hudson Lyric Opera has produced several operas and musicals. There will be costumes sets and an orchestra led by Director Rosalinda Perez.

The opera comes from the true story of the assassination of King Gustav 111 of Sweden. In 1792 the king was killed while attending a masked ball as a result of a political conspiracy against him. Giuseppe Verdi added love and the prediction of a witch and set the story to beautiful music. The opera “A Masked Ball” will be presented on Saturdays November 3, 10 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, November 4, 11 and 18 at 3 p.m.

The Hudson Lyric Opera, now in its sixth season, is comprised of many talented artists who live or work in the lower Hudson Valley. Artistic Director Perez’s purpose in founding the company is to provide local musicians and artists the opportunity to showcase their talents while providng the local community with a more convenient access to this art form.
