Cold Case Cracked Due to Perp’s Loose Lips

This week two suspects were arrested by Clarkstown cops in conjunction with a residential burglary committed on March 27, 2010. Rember Martinez, 30, of Spring Valley and Aldo Orellana, 36, of Nanuet were both arrested after an investigation was conducted by the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau.

On March 27, 2010 a resident of Bardonia reported that his home had been burglarized and that a safe containing cash and valuables was stolen. Almost 29 months later, in August 2012, the victim was approached by Martinez, who was an acquaintance, who stated that he had opened a safe for someone, unaware the safe belonged to the victim.

The victim reported the new information to the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau and the investigation continued. The stolen safe was subsequently recovered at a location near the Bear Mountain Bridge.

The new information led to the arrests of Martinez and Orellana.  Orellana was charged with burglary 2nd, grand larceny 3rd, and criminal possession of stolen property 3rd, all felonies. Martinez was charged with criminal possession of stolen property 3rd and conspiracy 5th, a misdemeanor.  Both were arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and are currently being held in the Rockland County Jail.
