“Bel Canto & Bella Cucina” Presented by Hudson Lyric Opera in Stony Point

BY GEORGE J. DACRE

The Hudson Lyric Opera played to an audience of about 40 people on Sunday afternoon at the historic Trinity United Methodist Church in Stony Point. A combination of good music and food was on the menu. Rosalinda Perez of Stony Point directed the opera company with the help of her daughter Louise Solomon of Monroe as the mistress of Ceremonies.

Singers from the group performed works by artists as such Menotti, Paisiello, Handel, Donaudy, Bellini, Mggio, Pucci, Verdi, Scarlatti, Gluck, Rossini, Denza, Cilea, Mozart, and Donizeti. All the performers were in great voice and in dramatically presented their various selections. One of the outstanding performances of the night was by Sharon Cheng, of Manhatten, who sang “Regnava Nel Silenzio” from Lucia di Lammamoor.

The next presentation by Hudson Lyric Opera Company will be in the fall and will be “Morro from: Un Ballo Di Maschera,” which translates to “The Masked Ball.”
