Popular Carnival Falls Dead in Pomona

Dreamland Amusements can no longer stage their once popular biannual carnival in the parking lot of the Nanuet Mall due to construction there, so they moved the location to the parking lot of Provident Bank Park. So far, it’s not working out, organizers have told the Rockland County Times. People cannot see the amusements from the road and that is affecting turnout.

Kelly Halvorsen of the Jan and Niles Davies Baby Learning Center at Helen Hayes Hospital, a charity that benefits from proceeds raised at the fair, said with the exception of fireworks on Saturday night, the carnival has been dead. She is now worried that Dreamland won’t even come back later in the year or next year and Rockland will lose one of its most popular carnivals.

Halvorsen said she had looked all over Rockland County but could find nowhere else that could accommodate the carnival. The side lot at the Pyramid Mall in West Nyack that sometimes hosts circuses and other major events could not be used because there was no water source available there.

All hope is not lost. The carnival is open through Sunday, April 29. The hours are 4 – 11 p.m. through Friday and noon – 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there will be another fireworks exhibition. The carnival has free parking and admission, customers pay for rides, food and games
