RELIEF FUND SET-UP FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY WEST HAVERSTRAW GAS BLAST

Supervisor Howard Phillips of the Town of Haverstraw along with Fran Nardi, deputy mayor of the Village of West Haverstraw and George Zayas, fire chief of West Haverstraw, have announced that a relief fund has been established for the families affected by the gas explosion that occurred at the Fair Grounds II housing development in West Haverstraw.

On Monday, January 16, 2012, a gas leak occurred in the townhouse complex known as Fair Grounds II. This gas leak led to an explosion which completely destroyed one home and left a second home condemned because of the structural damage. Not only were these families displaced, but two volunteer firefighters were severely injured as well as two Orange & Rockland workers. In addition, several other families’ homes were affected by the explosion and water damage.

Supervisor Phillips stated that any and all donations would be appreciated whether it is a small amount or large to assist the families and firefighters to overcome this tragedy.

If anyone wishes to make a donation, checks should be made payable to “FAIR GROUNDS II DISASTER FUND”.” Be advised that at this time the organization does not have 501c nonprofit status.
