Criminal Mischief, Pending Assault On Officer

At 2:45 p.m. on Sunday March 18, 2018, Stony Point Police responded to a report of a domestic argument on Route 210 in Stony Point. A 17-year-old male reportedly damaged sheetrock walls in his home after having a disagreement with his father. The male reportedly used a knife to puncture the walls numerous times and punched four holes in the walls. Upon police response, the male locked himself in a portion of the house and refused police orders to comply and surrender. The male was threatening to harm himself and officers with knives.

Stony Point Police were assisted by Haverstraw Police and the Rockland Sheriff Patrol and REACT team. Officers attempted to negotiate with the male for over an hour. When the male was being taken into custody at approximately 7 p.m., a Haverstraw officer suffered a punch to the face and a Sheriff officer was bitten by the male. Neither was seriously injured and the 17-year-old was not injured. The investigation is continuing and additional charges against the 17-year-old including assault on an officer and resisting arrest are anticipated.

The defendant was processed, arraigned and issued a return date to the Stony Point Justice Court. Upon his release from arraignment, an Order of Protection was issued and he was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
