TRAGEDY IN TOMKINS COVE: Biker who died on Buckberg Rd. ID’d

Eight friends went biking on the challenging back roads of Tomkins Cove this past Saturday morning. Tragically, only seven returned.

53-year-old Hilario Galvez of New Milford, NJ was descending a very steep slope on Buckberg Rd. when something went wrong causing him to cascade off the roadway into a wooded area. The impact killed him.

Police said they do not know what caused Galvez to lose control of his bike. There is no reason to believe any other biker had a role to play in the incident, they said. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident including speed, road terrain, road condition and mechanical failure.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Buckberg and Mott Farm Rd. Stony Point Police Department and the Rockland Sheriff BCI responded to the scene. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the SP Detective Bureau at 845.786.2422
