Fifteen-month-old Ephraim Szydlow was struck by a car and killed Sunday afternoon in Monsey.
An American Latina Taxi cab operated by 41-year-old Jorge Garrangui-Castillo apparently struck and killed the child as the cab was backing out of a driveway at 3 Johanna Lane. Police found no evidence the cab driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol but they did ticket him for unlicensed operation, as he failed to produce a valid drivers license. Police said additional tickets may be issued following an investigation.
Last month a 3-month-old infant was killed on Rt. 59 in Monsey when a driver swerved onto the shoulder and struck a mother and her three kids. In that case the driver Albert Gomez was charged with vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
