Syncopation, a romantic comedy by Allan Knee, opens Friday, August 11, at Penguin Repertory Theatre in Stony Point. It is the story of an unlikely couple, a middle-aged Jewish butcher and a young Italian garment worker, taking dance lessons in a sixth-floor walkup and dreaming of a better life. More than 1,000 items, drawings and mementoes are set for display at the Edward Hopper House Museum in Nyack. It is the first time so many of the painters’ personal things related to Hopper’s life have been on display. Visit www.edwardshopperhouse.org or call 845-358-0774 for more info.

Ice Bucket Challenge to be held Saturday, August 5 at Empire City Casino in Yonkers. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be free festivities and family-friendly entertainment, plus and hundreds of participants simultaneously dumping ice water over their heads.
