Final Rockland Shared Services Public Hearing on Thursday

PRESS RELEASE– Rockland will hold the third and final public hearing on the County-wide Shared Services Initiative at 7 p.m.Thursday, June 15 at Dominican College.

The state initiative calls upon the County Executive to come up with a plan to save property tax dollars by having municipalities and taxing districts share and centralize services.

“The idea is to deliver the same services more efficiently to save money for the taxpayer,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

More than 50 government agencies were asked to take part in the panel, including town supervisors, mayors, school superintendents and officials from sewer districts, solid waste authority and ambulance districts, among others.

The public hearings are designed to solicit ideas from the community.

“We need to think creatively about ways to save money for taxpayers,” the County Executive said. “Everything is on the table. We want to hear ideas.”

The county has also created a web page for information about the Shared Services Initiative. Residents can also find a link to forward ideas on that page. It can be found here or at http://rcklnd.us/ce-ssi

Thursday’s public hearing will take place at 7 p.m.Thursday at  Dominican College, Fury Lecture Hall, ground floor, 3 Campus Drive, Blauvelt.

The public hearing can also be viewed on Facebook Live here or at https://www.facebook.com/rocklandgov/?ref=bookmarks.

Under state law, a shared services plan has to be presented to the County Legislature by August 1.
