ATTACK OF THE HAMMER MAN

Haverstraw arrested in Stony Point, accused of threatening ex with a hammer before beating and strangling her 
 
On April 25, 2017 the Stony Point Police Department arrested John M. Rose, 52, of 8 Phelps St in West Haverstraw on a litany of felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a violent domestic incident.

Stony Point Police believe Rose entered a 43-year-old female victim’s apartment around 6:22 a.m. on Wood Ave. in Stony Point and threatened her with a hammer. Police claim he then used his hands and began choking the woman.  Police said Rose has had a long relationship and was under an order of protection to avoid contact with.

The police report state the defendant then struck the victim about the head with an unknown hard object and his fists and then smashed the victim’s computer with a hammer. A second victim, a 35-year-old male, was also at the apartment and the defendant is charged with assault and weapons possession charges for allegedly throwing a rock at the man and striking him in the hip causing injury.

The most serious charges include assault in the second degree, strangulation in the second degree and criminal contempt for violating an order of protection, all D felonies. Other charges included felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor charges of obstruction of breathing, menacing with a weapon and reckless endangerment.  


He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 28 at 10 AM.
