Candidate for the 97th Assembly District Joseph Chabot has called on his opponent Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee to donate the $3,800 she has received from the Friends of Sheldon Silver in 2008 to a charity that benefits the students of the East Ramapo School District.

Sheldon Silver, the former longtime speaker of the Assembly, was convicted on all seven corruption counts against him this May.

“Sheldon Silver embodies the corruption that we have seen throughout the state of New York. This is why I am calling on Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee to donate the $3,800 she has received from the Friends of Sheldon Silver so the people of Rockland County will know that no dirty money will be deciding any elections in the 97th Assembly District,” said Chabot.

Jaffee and Silver were close allies prior to his departure from the Assembly. Jaffee’s chief of staff’s husband Paul Casteleiro was appointed to a state ethic’s committee by Silver in January 2014.

Chabot is running against Jaffee for the 97th Assembly District, which covers all of Orangetown and Ramapo.
