Play Makers of The Hudson Valley: Barry Sabino and the Rockland Theatre Company

BY GEORGE J. DACRE

entBack in 1999 Barry played a role in a play directed by Neil Berg at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point.

He tells the Rockland County Times that he got the bug and later in life used it to start (in 2007) the Rockland Theatre Company, which works in conjunction with the Haverstraw Police Athletic League to get about 80 youngsters involved in theatre productions and summer classes.

Kids from Grades two through eight participated in auditions this month for the production of “Elf, the Musical,” which will be performed soon at a site to be determined. Sabino gets high school and college would-be actors and actresses involved in productions and one of his most prominent grads is Ricky Romano, currently musical dDirector of “Ruthlesss” off-Broadway.

Sabino directs many of the shows, which are played in various North Rockland venues including Trinity Methodist Church in Stony Point and North Rockland High School. “I always liked Broadway and the theater,” says Sabino.

Upcoming projects include a Christmas concert and a Valentine’s Day production. For information contact Barry at The Photo Shoppe in West Haverstraw at [email protected] or 845-942-1103.
