The second annual Nyack Family Bike Day will be held on Saturday, September 10, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Nyack’s Memorial Park on the Hudson River. This free event is a celebration of cycling for families and kids  — it’s a day for parents and kids to ride bikes, get some safety tips, and join an escorted bike ride through some of Rockland County’s lovely Hudson Rivertowns.

The 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. event includes the AAA Bike Rodeo, vendors, and live entertainment by The Jeff Rubin Band. Net proceeds generated from this event will go to the Nyack Center, whose mission is to support children, youth and families through educational and recreational programs. To learn more about the beneficiary, please visit www.nyackcenter.org.

Due to popular demand, the AAA Bike Rodeo will be returning. Children can bring their bikes to participate in a novice safety obstacle course while volunteers assist them with balance, safety and navigating cones – earning them a certificate in bike safety, and confidence on two wheels.

Two escorted bike rides will take place mid-day. From 12 – 1 p.m., Dave Zornow of Bike Nyack will lead a ride to Nyack Beach State Park via North Broadway; from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., Anthony Devanzo of Velo Bistro Wine Bar will lead a ride to Piermont via the Hader Trail. (Ride routes are subject to change depending on road and trail conditions.) Participants must bring their own bike and helmet, and parents must sign a waiver for children younger than 18-years-old.

2016 sponsors include Weld Realty, Tappan Zee Constructors, Wright Bros. Real Estate, Nyack News & Views, Palisades Center, Nyack Wine Cellar, Camp Bow Wow, Jamis Bicycles, Piermont Bike, 9W Bikes, and Velo. Nyack Family Bike Day is please to welcome back most of our 2015 sponsors.

The Village of Nyack Recreation Department and Mack Events have teamed up to make this event possible. Nyack Family Bike Day is organized by local volunteers with a love for safe, friendly and family fun cycling. The committee believes in the importance of cycling at a young age – whether it be a family recreation, sport, exercise or a “green” form of transport. If you are interested in volunteering for the Nyack Family Bike Day or have any questions, contact recreation@nyack-ny.gov, or visit  www.nyackfamilybikeday.com.

Nyack Family Bike Day is part of September’s Hudson River Valley Ramble, an annual event including walks, hikes, paddles, and biking tours showcasing the scenic, natural, historic and cultural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area.
