UNITED WAY OF ROCKLAND EARNS COVETED 4 STAR RATING FROM CHARITY NAVIGATOR

United Way of Rockland earned  a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, indicating the organization has strong financial health and accountability for monies spent. This is the first time that United Way of Rockland has earned this top distinction.

Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4 Star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance, ethical practices and openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability and Transparency metrics, which account for half of the charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.

“United Way of Rockland’s exceptional 4 Star rating sets it apart and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Michael Thatcher, president & CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only one out of every four charities rated by our organization receives the 4 Star rating. This adds United Way of Rockland to a pre-eminent group of charities working to overcome pressing community challenges. Based on this 4 Star rating, people can trust that their donation to the United Way of Rockland will be going to a financially responsible and ethical charity.”

“It is important that our donors trust that we are using donations wisely to accomplish our mission,” said Mimi Vilord, president & CEO of United Way of Rockland. “United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Rockland County, and we fund programs that further these goals.”
