Heroin Found in Sloatsburg

On Tuesday July 19, 2016, the Ramapo Police Department Anti-Crime Unit stopped a vehicle for speeding on Orange Turnpike in Sloatsburg, New York. The driver of the car was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The passenger was arrested for possessing hypodermic needles and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree. 13 heroin bags were recovered and tested positive for the drug. These suspects were from Norwich in Chenango County, New York. Bail was posted and the suspects must appear in Sloatsburg Court on a later date to answer all charges.

Man Drives into Ramapo River

On July 18, 2016 the Ramapo Police Department was on the scene of a vehicle in the Ramapo River in Hillburn. The Hillburn Fire Department assisted. The sole occupant of the Jeep, a 23-year-old man from Pomona, New York, decided to drive into the river. It appears he didn’t realize there are deep spots in the river. The Jeep ended up getting stuck and was towed. The mall was issued several tickets by the RPD. The NYS Department of Environmental Police responded and lodged misdemeanor DEC charges as well.

Trespassers at Ramapo Quarry

On Saturday July 17, 2016 officers from the Ramapo Police Department came upon five young adults trespassing at the Town of Ramapo Quarry in the Village of Suffern. They had entered the property to swim in the flooded quarry pit. They were arrested for trespass and released at the scene with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Ramapo Justice Court.

RPD is serious about strictly enforcing No Trespass Laws at the Quarry. The area is dangerous including unseen hazards in the flooded pit area and surrounding grounds.

Wanted:

On November 12, 2012 Nazariy Batsyk was arrested for Criminal Trespass in the third degree. He was arrested for trespassing on the grounds of the Elmwood Elementary School in Monsey. At the time he was trespassing, Batsyk was in possession of a pellet pistol. There is currently an active Bench Warrant for Batsyk returnable to the Town of Ramapo Court. Batsyk is 25-years-old, 5 foot 11 inches tall and at the time of his arrest weighed 228 pounds.

 Counterfeit Arrested in Hillcrest

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Thursday July 14, 2016, Ramapo Police Detectives arrested a 48-year-old female Hillcrest business owner. The arrest was a result of an investigation involving counterfeit handbags and accessories. The defendant was charged with two counts of Trademark Counterfeiting in the second degree.

 

Orangetown

Fire in Pearl River

In the early morning of Monday July 18, 2016, the Orangetown Police received a report of a fire at 45 W. Naurashaun Ave., in Pearl River.

Pearl River Fire Department responded an was assisted by the Orangeburg, West Nyack and Nyack Fire Departments in extinguishing the blaze, which was contained to a detached garage. Heat from the fire damaged other nearby structures.

Pearl River Ambulance and Rockland Paramedic Service also responded.

The Orangetown Bureau of Fire Prevention and Orangeburg Building Department were on the scene, as was Orange and Rockland Utilities.

Although the fire did not appear to be suspicious, the Orangetown Police Department and Rockland County Sheriff’s Arson Unit are investigating to determine the cause.

One driver was caught speeding on Lafayette Avenue. This driver was found to have 13 active suspensions on his license. The driver was taken into custody and the car impounded.

A 52-year-old man from Mahwah, New Jersey, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol. He was stopped on Lafayette Avenue after he was observed driving while on his cell phone. An investigation determined the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed under arrest.

A 26-year-old Brooklyn man was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument after he attempted to use a fake check at the Suffern Post Office. A teller at this location became suspicious of this check and contacted the Suffern Police Department who was able to locate the suspect while he was still on post office grounds. He was arrested at the scene.

A 21-year-old Suffern man was charged with driving with a suspended license. He was stopped for a traffic violation on Washington Avenue and was found to be driving with that license status.

A 31-year-old Bronx man was charged with driving with a suspended license. He was stopped on Lafayette Avenue for speeding.

A 27-year-old Chestnut Ridge man was charged with driving with a suspended license. He was stopped on Lafayette Avenue for speeding.
