Ramapo:

Man Charged with Grand Larceny Turns Himself In

On May 31, 2016 Erik Solis, 42, of Greenwood Lake NY, turned himself in to Ramapo Police after an investigation. Solis was charged with Grand Larceny for the theft more than $30,000 worth of jewelry and cash from a former girlfriend and her family. The theft took place in December of 2014.

Solis was arraigned in Ramapo Town Court with bail being set at $250.00. Solis has a return court date in Airmont Village Court on June 16, 2016 at 5 p.m.

Stony Point:

Man Arrested for Yacht Joy Ride

3On May 28, 2016, the Stony Point Police Department arrested Eladio Torres, 24, of Nanuet, NY, for Petit Larceny, Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, an E-Felony. Stony Point Police arrested Torres after an investigation revealed he took, without the owner’s consent, a 2006 28 foot Bayliner boat from the Minisceongo Yacht Club for a joy ride. The investigation further revealed that the boat sustained approximately $3,000 worth of damage to the right hull. Torres was arrested, processed, arraigned and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2500 bail. He is due back in the Stony Point Justice Court on June 2, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.

Orangetown:

Man Arrested for Alleged Car Theft

On May 23, 2016 Orangetown Police arrested Terell Anderson, 21, of New Rochelle, NY, on an arrest warrant from the Nyack Village Court. Anderson was charged with Grand Larceny Fourth Degree, an E Felony, and Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, for his alleged role in connection with the theft of a car from Midland Ave in Nyack on March 7, 2016. The stolen vehicle was previously recovered. Anderson was arraigned in Nyack Justice Court and was remanded to Rockland County Jail when he could not post $1000 bail.

Woman Arrested for D.W.I.

On May 24, 2016 Orangetown Police Department received calls regarding an erratic driver on Route 9W driving a Honda sedan. Police were able to safely stop the Honda in the area of Thorpe Village on Route 340 in Sparkill and the driver, Carol Ryan, 71, of South Nyack, NY, stated she had been drinking alcoholic beverages. She could not pass field sobriety tests and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. She was transported by police to Orangetown Police Headquarters in Orangeburg where she submitted to a chemical breath test. She was additionally charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content Greater than .08%. She was released and is due back in Orangetown Court on June 21, 2016.

Man Faced with Summons after Leaving Dog in Car

On May 28, 2016 at 2:03 p.m., Orangetown Police responded to an anonymous report of a dog locked in a vehicle in the parking lot of Lowe’s in Orangeburg. Officers discovered a 2011 Mazda with a German Shepherd puppy panting heavily inside. At the time, the temperature in Orangeburg, NY was 91 degrees with 73% humidity.

Police located the owner of the car; Shaun Stanley, 19, of Montvale, NJ, in short order and did not have to damage the vehicle to rescue the dog.

Stanley was issued a summons under New York Agriculture & Markets Law Art 26 sub 353D: Unlawful Confinement of a Companion Animal in a Motor Vehicle. He is due back in Orangetown Court on June 22, 2016.

Man Arrested for DWI After Overturning Truck

On May 28, 2016 at 1:56 a.m. the Orangetown Police arrested Claude D. Simon, 60, of Upper Nyack, NY, for Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. Simon was driving a 2012 Jeep northbound on North Broadway in Nyack when the vehicle overturned and crashed into a building. Simon was transported to Nyack Hospital where he failed a field sobriety test. Simon submitted to a blood test and was charged with DWI. Simon was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Nyack Court on June 21, 2016.

Man Arrested for Assault in Sparkill

On May 29, 2016 at 12:30 a.m. the Orangetown Police arrested Baby C. Thomas, 60, of Sparkill, NY, for Assault 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor. Officers responded to a private home in Sparkill on a reported domestic disturbance. A woman in the home reported that she was assaulted by Thomas. The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Thomas was arraigned in Orangetown Court and given a return court date of June 13, 2016.

Man Arrested for Trespassing and Breaking Court Order

On May 30, 2016 at 4:12 a.m. the Orangetown Police arrested Scott E. Bennett, 29, of Bellmore, NY, for Criminal Contempt 2nd degree and Criminal Trespass 2nd degree, both misdemeanors. Officers responded to a home in Pearl River where a woman reported that Bennett had violated a stay away court order and had illegally entered and remained in her home without permission. Bennett was arraigned in Orangetown Court and sent to the Rockland County Jail on $1,500 bail.

Suffern:

Man Arrested for Harassment

 Last week a 51-year-old Suffern man was charged with harassment after he was accused of getting into an altercation with a neighbor who he allegedly threatened.
Woman Arrested for DWI over MDW

Over Memorial Day weekend a 42-year-old Suffern woman was charged with aggravated DWI after an officer observed her at around 11 p.m. make an unsafe turn into an oncoming lane of traffic. Upon being stopped she was found to be intoxicated and when given a breathalyzer with the assistance of the Ramapo Police she was found to be over .18% BAC which made the charge Aggravated DWI. She was released on bail pending a future court date.
