RCT SCOOP CONFIRMED: Exploratory group founded to create possible Village of Pearl River

Despite the famous slogan, Pearl River has never been a "town." It may, however, have a chance to become a village in the near future.
Despite the famous slogan, Pearl River has never been a “town.” It may, however, have a chance to become a village in the near future.

As first reported in the May 12 edition of the Rockland County Times print edition, a group of Pearl River citizens are actively forging the path for a possible Village of Pearl River.

According to Donald Feerick, an attorney associated with the project, “The Village of Pearl River Exploratory Committee, Inc. has released its Preliminary Report on whether incorporation of the Town of Orangetown’s largest hamlet as a Village is warranted.”

Feerick said, “The Preliminary Report expresses the local frustration with town land use boards and a desire to incorporate to maintain and stabilize the value of property, if not enhance the value of local property.”

He cites Kevin Joyce, the president of Joyce Realty, as stating that a village incorporation would “display a significant enthusiasm of residents by taking ownership of their local community.”

Mr. Joyce continued, “single family home values would increase in the event the hamlet of Pearl River were to become a Village.”

The Exploratory Committee would like as many comments from the public as possible before they release a final recommendation on the subject. Go to the site to leave your comment.

Feerick said, “[The] next steps in the approval process, if warranted, will be undertaken after the public has a chance to comment on the Exploratory Committee’s Preliminary Report.”
