Horrible Saturday in Stony Point as two men in mid-20s perish

Death Investigation –Cedar Brook

On May 21, 2016, at approximately 10:19 a.m. the Stony Point Police responded to the area of the Rte 210 and Cedar Flats Rd. for a report of a male submerged in the Cedar brook. Arriving officers found the body of Nicholas Cohen, male 25 yoa, #4 East Main St. Stony Point, deceased in the brook.

The investigation is continuing but the death does not appear to be suspicious. The deceased was removed from the water by the Wayne Hose Fire Department. The victim was removed from the scene by the R.C. Medical Examiner’s office for a determination on the cause of death.

The Stony Point Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s BCI and Rockland Paramedics.

Death Investigation — Farley Bridge

On May 21, 2016, at approximately 1:23 a.m., the Stony Point Police responded to the area of the James A. Farley Bridge for a report of a male attempting to jump from the bridge. Arriving officers were advised by witnesses that said male did jump from bridge into the park below.

Responding officers located the male inside the Charles Eccher park. The 24-year-old male was unresponsive and apparently deceased as a result of the trauma suffered from the fall. The investigation is continuing but the death does not appear to be suspicious. The deceased was removed by the R.C. Medical Examiner’s office for a determination on the cause of death.

The Stony Point Police Department was assisted by the Haverstraw Town Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s Patrol and BCI, NY State Park Police,Wayne Hose Fire Department Rockland Paramedics, and the R.C. Medical Examiner’s Office.
