LEGISLATOR PAUL ENCOURAGES VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP

lpRockland County Legislator Aney Paul and a volunteer crew will participate in the 2016 Great American Cleanup sponsored by Keep Rockland Beautiful on April 9. New volunteers are welcome.

The cleanup will be the latest in an ongoing effort by Paul to participate in neighborhood renewal projects. In 2014 as part of the Rockland County Highway Department’s Adopt-a-Road Program, Paul adopted the two-mile stretch of County Route 35A that runs between New Clarkstown Road in Nanuet and Route 59 in Spring Valley.

Paul organized four cleanup efforts in 2014 and four more in 2015 that were well attended by volunteers and helped rid the busy roadway of trash. Debris left on roadsides is often washed by rain and melted snow into local waterways through storm drains or blown directly into streams and lakes. These waterways help supply drinking water and also serve as habitat for aquatic, plant and wild life.

The cleanup runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9. Volunteers will meet at the Pascack Community Center at 87 New Clarkstown Road in Nanuet.

Anyone who wants to join Paul in the cleanup effort can contact her at [email protected] or 845- 638-5100. For more information about the 2016 Great American Cleanup and Keep Rockland Beautiful, visit www.keeprocklandbeautiful.org or call 845-708-9164.
