SUEZ SPONSORS “PROJECT WET” WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

SUEZ announced last week that it will co-sponsor a Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) Workshop for Rockland County educators. The free workshop, which will also be co-sponsored by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), will be held on March 9 at the Crestwood Conference Center in West Nyack.

Through the workshop, SUEZ and NYSDEC will engage teachers in water-related educational activities that can be incorporated into classroom curricula. The hands-on program provides educators with ways to instruct students about New York’s water supply and conservation efforts.

“SUEZ is pleased to sponsor the Project WET Workshop, and to support local educators with forward-thinking programming for their classrooms,” said Chris Graziano, general manager of the SUEZ New York Division. “By integrating water education into the classroom, we hope to teach the next generation about the importance of water resources, conservation and science.”

The Project WET Workshop is open to teachers of kindergarten through eighth grade. Educators who participate are eligible to receive six credit hours toward their professional development requirements. As part of the workshop, teachers will receive a Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide, which includes ideas for 64 field-tested activities that underscore the importance of water to students.

Project WET is an award-winning program that encourages classroom discussions about water’s properties, quality and impact on daily life. Lessons from the initiative are designed to fit within existing classroom learning, including curricula for the Common Core Standards, Next Generation Science Standards and STEM Educational Coalition.

The Project WET Workshop will be held March 9, from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. at the Crestwood Conference Center in West Nyack. Those interested in registering should contact Lori Murray at [email protected].
