Taxi driver reports being assaulted and robbed in Spring Valley

A Spring Valley taxi driver was allegedly assaulted and robbed yesterday evening in Hillcrest.

On Monday, January 4 at about 9:08 p.m., while on patrol, a Town of Ramapo Police officer was flagged down by the taxi cab driver at Rt. 45 near Rennsalear Drive in Hillcrest.

According to the victim, he had picked up suspect in front of the Bravo Supermarket in Hillcrest Plaza. When the taxi reached Rennsalear Drive the suspect grabbed the driver from behind and demanded cash. Suspect also repeatedly punched the driver and sprayed a substance into the driver’s eyes. Suspect then fled on foot.

The victim was transported to Nyack Hospital. The names of the victim and the taxi company are being withheld.

The suspect is described as a tall, large-build, middle aged black male.
