Colin Schmitt (R-C), the 20-something political wunderkind who nearly beat the odds to grab the Republican nomination for Assembly District 99 (Parts of Orange County and Stony Point) in 2012, is now the odds on favorite to face incumbent Assemblyman James Skoufis (D). Schmitt has been involved in politics since his early teens and was an early crusader for pension reform with his New Dawn PAC formed in 2011. He served a stint on the staff of former State Senator Greg Ball after his failed 2012 campaign, launched at the tender age of 21.

Schmitt’s fundraiser itinerary was leaked to the Rockland County Times by a guest at the event. In attendance were such Orange/Rockland County luminaries as County Executive Steve Neuhaus, County Clerk Annie Rabbitt, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec and Orange County Republican Chair Courtney Greene. Schmitt is known as a ferocious campaigner, which could make him a threat to Skoufis, as Assembly District 99 leans to the right and there will be a heavy turnout for the presidential campaig
