Every two seconds, somebody in the United States is in need of a life-saving blood transfusion. In the New York/New Jersey area, local hospitals rely on the generosity of blood donors to reach the nearly 2,000 blood donations needed each day.
On December 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw invites individuals aged 16 and up to help with the demand for this life-giving substance at the hospital’s winter Blood Drive. Donors should be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the last 56 days, or an ALYX donation in the last 112 days. Donors age 76 and over must present a doctor’s note and 16-year-olds must present a signed parental permission slip to participate. Donors must also eat and drink well before donating and present photo or signature I.D.
All eligible donors will receive a limited addition long-sleeved t-shirt and a mini medical exam onsite, including information about their temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and hemoglobin level. No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are welcome.
