Vasquez suspended from Woodbury job; no word yet on impact on Rockland Sheriff’s race

FROM MIDHUDSONNEWS.COM

HIGHLAND MILLS – Town of Woodbury Police Chief Richard Vasquez has been suspended from the job for 30 days, sources told MidHudsonNews.com.

Town Supervisor Ralph Caruso would not comment on the matter, but referred questions to the town labor attorneys.
Vasquez did not return a call for comment Monday night.

Vasquez is running for Rockland County Sheriff against incumbent Louis Falco. He has yet to address the suspension publicly.

UPDATE: News 12 reported this morning that “The town board suspended Vasquez because it felt he was ignoring the obligations of his job because he spent too much time campaigning for office. It is expected that the board will file formal action against Vasquez so that he can be terminated. It is unclear yet if the suspension is without pay. News 12 has reached out for comment, but Vasquez and the Woodbury Police Department refused comment on the situation.”
