Habitat For Humanity/Community Leaders To Celebrate Ground Breaking For New House

habitatHabitat for Humanity of Rockland (HFHR) recently held a ground breaking ceremony to celebrate the start of a new house at 16 Partition Street in Haverstraw.

Habitat for Humanity of Rockland is a group of people committed to eliminating substandard housing conditions in Rockland County. HFHR has previously built seven homes in Rockland County; four in Spring Valley and three in Hillburn, and has recently completed renovating a building at Camp Shanks – Homes for Heroes- to be used as a community center for the residents.

Many local organizations, business and local community leaders have played a role in developing this project. Those taking part in the ceremony will include Mayor Kohut of the Village of Haverstraw and Supervisor Phillips of the Town of Haverstraw.

This project will be a two story, three bedroom house with one and a half baths. A majority of the build will be done by volunteers supervised by local area professionals who have donated their time to this project. HFHR houses are built to Energy Starr standards and meet or exceed building code.

The family for whom the house will be built will be selected based upon their need for adequate shelter, their income, and their willingness to partner with HFHR. A complete list of qualifications and application is on our web site:www.habitatrockland.org.
