Haverstraw, Ramapo Announce Entries In Supervisor’s Challenge at Lake DeForest Day

Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips and Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence announced this week their town’s entries in the first-ever Supervisor’s Challenge at Lake DeForest Day on Saturday, June 27, 10 a.m.

Phillips will participate in the 100-meter race and will be accompanied by Robert Masiello, a member of the North Rockland school board. This gives Haverstraw a very strong entry. Phillips is an active sportsman and Masiello starred on local rec softball fields as a pitcher for many years.

Ramapo will be represented by the husband-and-wife team of Mimi and Randy Vilord. Mimi is the president of United Way of Rockland and Randy is the Facilities Manager of Spook Rock Golf Course, which is owned and operated by the town.

The winner will be awarded the Supervisor’s Cup by County Executive Ed Day during opening ceremonies that begin at 11 a.m. The Challenge will begin at 10 a.m. Supervisors Alex Gromack and Andy Stewart are expected to announce their entries later this week. Stony Point Supervisor Geoff Finn announced last week that Councilman Jim Monaghan will be his teammate.

Local residents will have the opportunity to kayak and canoe for the first time on Lake DeForest as part of the event, which will donate all proceeds to the Hackensack Riverkeeper. Paddlers can register by visiting www.HackensackRiverKeeper.org.
