Dog Walker Watch Program in Sloatsburg

The Village of Sloatsburg announced this week that it has joined with the Ramapo Police Department in sponsoring the Dog Walker Watch Program.  The village has placed Officer Omar Olayan in charge of the endeavor.

The Dog Walker Watch is described as a crime awareness program sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), which encourages dog walkers to serve as “extra eyes and ears” for local law enforcement agencies in the ongoing crime prevention efforts.  Unlike a community watch program, Dog Walker Watch requires no commitment beyond an individual’s regular routine.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of dog walkers throughout the community at all times of the day, all days of the week, in all weather conditions, who are often pre-occupied with texting, chatting, emailing, and listening to music during their neighborhood walks.  Dog Walker Watch trains these individuals how to effectively observe and report criminal activity.

There will be a sign up and training session on Tuesday evening, July 14 at Village Hall at 7 p.m.  Any resident interested in participating in this new exciting dynamic program is requested call the Village Hall at 845-753-2727 to register or obtain further information.
