During the event, Ocean State Job Lot will give away a variety of food samples from its brand name vendors and a chance to win a $200 shopping spree. Various community organizations and businesses will display their information, offer prize drawings, and be on hand for the morning festivities including the Town of Clarkstown, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County, and Rockland Independent Living Center. Care About the Strays will hold cat adoptions at the event and there will be free adoption kits courtesy of Job Lot for all those who adopt onsite.
Also, Sesame Street comic book writer Jason Burns will make an appearance to autograph and give away comic books and other items while supplies last, and there will be a Sesame Street coloring activity for kids. Plus, radio station WHUD 100.7 will host a remote appearance at the store from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with contests and prize giveaways.
In conjunction with Job Lot’s community-first approach to business, Ocean State Job Lot’s Charitable Foundation will make a donation of household items on May 29, 2015 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County in support of the Family Assistance Program which fosters family independence and responsibility. Also coinciding with the store opening, a truckload of nutritious, shelf-stable food will be donated to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley courtesy of the Foundation’s “Three Square Meals” community meal assistance program. Carrie Jones Ross, food sourcing coordinator for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, will be on hand at the Grand Opening to acknowledge the donation along with local representatives from People to People.
“We are thrilled to be opening our ninth Ocean State Job Lot store in New York and expanding the opportunities for area residents to see the tremendous merchandising values and different kind of shopping experience that closeout retailing offers, ” states David Sarlitto, marketing executive for Ocean State Job Lot. “We’re also pleased to be bringing over 30 new jobs, both full- and part-time, to the local community,” he adds.
