Man dies in collision between ambulette and minibus

20150514_201046A man riding in an ambulette was killed Thursday afternoon when it smashed into a Brega minibus at the intersection of Rt. 303 and Palisades Center Drive. Two passengers in the minibus and drivers of both vehicles were also taken to Nyack Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 48-year-old man who died in the accident was the sole passenger in the ambulette.

Police identified the deceased man as Vincent Careccio, 48, of Pomona.

Others involved in the crash were the driver of the ambulette, Jean Saintilme, 42, of Spring Valley; Brega bus driver, Marie Morisset, 64, of Spring Valley; and two bus passengers, a 34-year-old Spring Valley woman and a 22-year-old New York City man.

No immediate summons were issued. Police said the ambulette was associated with the Friendship Adult Day Care Center. The vehicle had made a left coming out of the Palisades Mall and was hit by the southbound Brega minibus.

The incident brought out some critics of Brega, whose contract to handle Rockland County bussing needs took effect a year and a half ago after years of contentious litigation.
