United Water tells North Rockland customers: Water may taste and smell different beginning this week

United Water’s Letchworth plant goes online to meet summer water needs

United Water announced this week that its Letchworth plant will be put online to service customers in Stony Point and Haverstraw during the high volume summer season.

United Water utilizes a variety of water supplies, including ground water from wells and surface water from reservoirs. Different purification processes are required for each source of supply to ensure that the treated water meets all safe drinking water standards.

The company said that for most of the year, customers in the vicinity of Stony Point and Haverstraw typically receive ground water from wells, however, in order to meet increased demand in the warmer weather, United Water puts the Letchworth Water Treatment Plant online in the spring.

Because customers receive water from a surface water supply, they may notice that the water has a different taste and smell. This difference should become less noticeable as time goes by.

United Water assured customers that there are no associated health issues and the water will continue to meet safe drinking water standards.
