Former West Haverstraw Mayor Edward Zugibe passes away

Former longtime mayor of West Haverstraw Edward Zugibe passed away this morning, the Rockland County Times has learned.  He served as mayor for 35 years until being succeeded by John Ramundo in 2007.

Zugibe was the brother of late Rockland Medical Examiner Frederick Zugibe, who died in 2013, and uncle of incumbent Rockland District Attorney Tom Zugibe.

Zugibe also founded Zugibe Hardware in the 1950s, which still is open for business on Railroad Ave. in Garnerville. He turned 92 this week.

Village Hall was dedicated to Edward Zugibe in 2013.

Family indicated funeral and burial arrangements are as follows:

Viewing at TJ McGowan’s in Garnerville on Tuesday 2-4 p.m.. and 7-9 p.m.
