Pedestrian injured by passing vehicle near Palisades Mall

A 29-year old Congers man was injured by a passing motorist while he was walking on Route 303 near the Palisades Center Mall.

According to reports, the man had climbed over the guard rail in the center of the road and was not within the crosswalk during a period of particularly bad weather and poor visibility. He was struck by a vehicle driven by a 25-year old motorist, also from Congers, and sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian was transported to Nyack Hospital before being taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit has opened an investigation, but does not believe the driver is at fault.

New father passes away in motorcycle accident

Richard Quezada, 17, of Chestnut Ridge was killed while riding a motorcycle Friday night, December 26. Quezada had recently become a father, media learned following the event.

Ramapo PD said Quezada’s 2005 Honda motorcycle collided with a 2005 Nissan Maxima on South Pascack Rd. just north of Watermill Rd. The Maxima was driven by 32-year-old Websner Mathieu of Nanuet, who suffered minor injuries. Mathieu was not issued a summons.

After hearing word of the tragedy, a group of 20 or so Ramapo High Schoool students and family members of Quezada gathered around the crash site, many wailing in grief.

Rockland County Paramedics and Faist Ambulance were the first to respond to the scene followed by Ramapo PD. The Ramapo Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is still actively investigating the tragic crash.

Police discovered that Quezada had been taking motorcycle training classes and had a permit, but had yet to earn a full license to operate the vehicle.

On December 29, 2014 at 10:10 a.m. the Clarkstown Police Department responded to the intersection of Rt. 303 and N. Palisades Center Drive in West Nyack for a report of an overturned truck. The responding units observed the box truck to be on its side and the driver of the truck had sustained a minor injury. The driver was transported to Nyack ER for treatment. The box truck is being off loaded of its cargo and will be towed from the scene upon completion. There is minimal impact on traffic at this time.The cause of the accident is under investigation at this time.
