NEW CITY – The man thought to be responsible for a November 28 knife attack on a Costco employee was arrested on Monday after he turned himself in to police.

Shaquille White, 19, of Spring Valley, surrendered to Clarkstown Police after a brutal attack on a fellow employee in the Nanuet Costco at 50 Overlook Boulevard. He was subsequently charged with first degree assault, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

White allegedly attacked the 21 year old male employee during a heated argument in a bathroom shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday. The employee was slashed once across the abdomen and several times across the face with a box-cutter and sustained serious wounds which required treatment at Nyack Hospital. The injuries appear to be non-fatal and the victim is expected to survive.

No customers had entered the store before the attack, but both White and the victim were working at the time. Clarkstown Police were able to identify White as a suspect and kept watch for him until he turned himself in to authorities.

White’s bail has been set at $50,000. He is expected to return to court on December 5.

The incident is one of two bladed weapon attacks which occurred on Friday. Later that afternoon, Janice White, 40, was arrested for a razorblade attack on a 60-year old man during a fight which resulted in wounds to the victim’s face.
