Stony Point man killed in crash

A Stony Point man was killed in a crash on Washburns Lane on Sunday night, the latest in a rash of motorcycle-related accidents and road fatalities.

Stony Point PD said Jamie R. Conklin, 35 of 2 Spruce Street in Stony Point, collided his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with the rear passenger side of a Nissan Altima between Lt. Funcheon Drive and Schassler Place on Washburns Lane at about 8:35 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the crash, analyzing the speed of the vehicles and other factors while the Rockland County Medical Examiner conducts an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. No arrests have been made.

Some witnesses of the accident and members of Conklin’s family expressed their reaction to the tragedy on the North Rockland Community Group Facebook page, creating an impromptu social media memorial.

Conklin’s death marks the third serious motorcycle accident in Rockland within the past two weeks. On September 27, Chestnut Ridge resident Vincent Russell, 49, was killed when he collided with a car on Chestnut Ridge Road.

The next day, New Jersey resident Gregory Samol, 62 and his wife Nancy Samol, 60 were critically injured when they went offroad and crashed their motorcycle along Route 17 in Sloatsburg.
