Stony Point Teen Arrested After Early-Morning Accident on Route 9W, 17-year-old Passenger Seriously Injured

STONY POINT – An early-morning accident on Route 9W has left a Stony Point teenager hospitalized with serious injuries and led to the arrest of the 17-year-old driver, according to Stony Point police.

Sean M. Delgado, 17, of 7 Bayview Drive, Stony Point, was charged with driving while ability impaired, second-degree assault and third-degree assault after police investigated at 2:30 a.m. crash on Saturday near Bayview Drive along Route 9W, police said.

A car driven by Delgado with three male passengers, police said, was heading northbound when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The most-seriously injured person, a 17-year-old boy, was thrown from the car.

The injured teen was taken to Nyack Hospital and then transferred to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. The other occupants of the car were taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Delgado was also cited for numerous traffic violations in connection with the incident, police said. He was released pending a hearing in Stony Point Town Court.

The accident was investigated by Stony Point police with the Ramapo police accident reconstruction team, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Identification and its Police Division, with volunteers of the Stony Point Fire Department and Spring Hill Ambulance Corps and members of Rockland Paramedics assisting at the scene of the crash.

As the investigation into the crash continues, Stony Point police are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the crash. Witnesses can contact police at 845-786-2422.
