ANDY STEWART TALKS BUDGET

To the Editor,

One of the most important duties of the town supervisor is to initiate and coordinate the budget process for our town. So at last night’s town board meeting, I presented the Tentative Budget to the board, the town clerk, and the public.

The supervisor’s budget is the first of three drafts of the Town Budget. The Town Council will submit a revised Preliminary Budget on October 21 and the entire board will then vote on a final budget on November 18. A public hearing on the Preliminary Budget is scheduled for the Town Board meeting on November 5.

My proposed budget would keep Orangetown under the New York State tax cap for the third year in a row. It also trims overall town spending by almost $100,000 and cuts back on discretionary spending by 5 percent relative to the 2014 budget.

I invite interested town residents to visit the town’s website, www.orangetown.com to read my budget message and view the complete 2015 Supervisor’s Budget. Both links can be found listed under “News and Information” at the bottom of the home page.

Sincerely,

Andy Stewart
Town Supervisor
