FISCHER NAMED ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT CITY COLLEGE

Fischer.picsProfessor Herbert S. Fischer, a Suffern-resident and formerly an award-winning Teaneck High School social studies teacher, has been named associate professor of history and political science at City College of New York’s downtown campus for this fall semester and beyond.

Professor Fischer has already been teaching as an adjunct professor at City College’s Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) campus the past two years. As a social studies teacher at Teaneck High School from 2001 to 2004, Professor Fischer developed a law program at the school. This incorporated the instruction of criminal and civil law into social studies curricula and the inclusion of world-famous attorneys, FBI, and DEA as guests to the high school. Additionally, Mr. Fischer’s classes appeared on the set of “Peoples’ Court” and deliberated as mock jurors in criminal trials performed by students at New York Law School.

Fischer currently lives in Suffern, NY with his wife, Karen Sussan, a reconstruction rabbi, and his daughter, Rachel, 16.
