DR. MICHAEL SHAW ELECTED HUDSON VALLEY REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE NEW YORK STATE READING ASSOCIATION

Dr. Michael Shaw, professor of education at St. Thomas Aquinas College, was elected as Hudson Valley Regional Director for the New York State Reading Association and will serve on the Board of Directors, announced Dr. Meenakshi Gajria, dean of the School of Education. Shaw currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Rockland Reading Council as its Treasurer.

With this new appointment, Shaw will work with all local Councils in the Hudson Valley to expand initiatives. Specific focus will be made on increasing membership; reaching out to schools to participate in writing publishing projects; and developing programs for parents of early childhood students to read to children. Shaw is a national leader in Literacy Education. He holds leadership positions in the International Reading Association, National Council of Teachers of English, and Save Our Schools, a national organization to promote public education as a civil right that advocates for the elimination of high-stakes testing and evaluation of teachers based on testing results, elimination of publisher-created scripted instruction, and the narrowing of curriculum that is eliminating arts education.
