The employees of Beckerle Lumber and their families celebrated their 20th Annual Picnic at Platzl Brauhaus on Sunday, July 20. Almost 200 Beckerle employees and family members attended this year’s wonderful BBQ, to play miniature golf and go swimming in the pool – or have lots of relaxing conversation with family and friends, many whom have worked for Beckerle for more than 20 years. Beckerle Lumber, which was started in Spring Valley in 1940 by Laurence Beckerle, will celebrate 75 years operating as a locally owned business in Rockland County, which now has four locations – Spring Valley, Congers, Orangeburg and Haverstraw. A book is being written about the history of the company and the history of the Beckerle family that goes back to a farm in Pearl River in 1859. We would like to hear your stories and see any photographs about Beckerle Lumber or about the history of the towns where they operated, especially mid 1930s – 1970s Spring Valley, 1970s -1990s Congers and 1970s -1990s West Nyack and the Allison & Ver Valen lumber yard, which operated in Haverstraw for almost 100 years, until the early 1980s.
