Mexican Cuisine Coming to Rt. 59 Spot

Mexican restaurantIt’s been the graveyard for restaurateurs since IHOP left the location well over a decade ago, but now once again an eager new owner has invested in the 5,000 square foot restaurant space in Nanuet NY adjacent to the Days Inn on Rt. 59.

Dos Agaves, a new restaurant specializing in authentic Southern Mexican Cuisine, will be placed in the location, just two miles down the road from El Bandido in Spring Valley, one of the most popular and longest running Mexican food destinations in Rockland. The last time a Mexican restaurant tried to make it in the spot was 2010 when Manny Tello, son of El Bandido’s owner, and business partners, briefly tried to resurrect the immensely popular “Fiesta Cancun,” formerly of Stony Point. Most recently a Latin Restaurant tried to no avail.

The property boasts an atrium, cocktail room, private party room, and patio, and is located on Route 59 next to the Days Inn and is within easy access of NY Thruway and Route 59. The tenants and landlord were both represented by Ron Chromey of KW Commercial, the commercial arm of Keller Williams Hudson Valley Realty in New City. “We wanted to bring a tenant who would also bring value to the adjacent Days Inn Hotel, which is operated by the owner of the restaurant property,” said Chromey.

Pedro and Mauricioag Aguilar, the father and son team and new owners of Dos Agaves will bring authentic Southern Mexican cuisine to this market, Chromey said. Mauricioag, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, said,” I’m looking forward to bringing this cuisine, and specialty tequilas to this market.” The restaurant will open soon after renovations. The lease was negotiated and closed in less than 30 days.
