HEALTH DEPT ANNOUNCES “TRY IT – YOU MIGHT LIKE IT” EVENTS

The Villages of Haverstraw, Spring Valley, and West Haverstraw, along with the Rockland County Department of Health’s Creating Healthy Places Healthier Corner Store program, and participating village corner stores, are promoting “Try It-You Might Like It!” events at local food markets in July.  

“We encourage residents to take advantage of these events to sample healthier choices; try it, you might like it! and be on your way to a healthier you,” said Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, Rockland County commissioner of Health. Visit one of these locations to taste a healthy food or beverage. If you try it, like it, then buy it, you will receive a free gift with your purchase:

• Thursday, July 17, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Pantano’s Deli & Pizza

9 Westside Avenue, Haverstraw.  “Stop by and sample some fresh fruit salad – a tasty combination of cut-up  fresh summer fruits! A great snack or dessert.”

• Wednesday, July 23rd, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at LaPlaza Grocery

137 North Main Street, Spring Valley.  “Stop by and sample some three bean salad.Loaded with protein and fiber. A perfect compliment to any meal!”

• Thursday, July 24th, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Mi Bandera

175 Broadway, Haverstraw. Stop by and sample some 1% milk. The Health Dept. says “reduced fat milk provides all the calcium and nutrients for bone health, and eliminates the unhealthy fat for your heart.”

• Wednesday, July 30th, from 8-10 a.m. at Quick Shop Deli

85 Ramapo Road, Garnerville. “Stop by and sample some fruit smoothie. Cool, refreshing, naturally sweet, and packed full of vitamins!”

• Thursday, July 31st, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Mi Tierra Market

1 New Main Street, Haverstraw. “Stop by for some low sodium black bean veggie salad. This dish provides a healthy, nutritious, low cost meatless meal for your family. Simple to make!”
